Born in 1994, Merve Uzun completed her undergraduate education in Boğaziçi University Undergraduate Program in Science Education and started the Master’s Program of the Department of Environmental Sciences at Boğaziçi University, Institute of Environmental Sciences. Along with the courses she took in fields such as waste management, environmental economics, ecology, and environmental chemistry, she worked in the fields of sustainability and sustainable agriculture under the consultancy of Prof. Dr. Nilgün Kıran Cılız. In her master’s thesis titled “The Environmental Performance of Einkorn Bread Using Cradle-to-Grave Life Cycle Assessment Methodology Including Wheat Straw Utilization in Bioethanol Production”, she evaluated the environmental performance of the bread produced from einkorn wheat grown with organic farming techniques and permaculture principles, covering the whole life cycle using the life cycle assessment (LCA) methodology, and expanded the scope of the study by developing a scenario in which the obtained wheat straw was used in bioethanol production. During her graduate education, she also started to work as a researcher at Boğaziçi University Sustainable Development and Cleaner Production Center under the coordination of Prof. Dr. Nilgün Kıran Cılız.
